HOW INDY CELEBRATES MAY: RACING LEGENDS AND THRILLS AT THE INDY 500

On the Saturday before the race, immerse yourself in the magic of the AES 500 Festival parade in downtown Indy, where floats, balloons, bands, dance teams and drivers come to life.
On Sunday before the race, enjoy marching bands, drill teams, local celebrities, and patriotic moments. Experience the singing of the National Anthem, military flyover, and the iconic "Back Home Again in Indiana" followed by a balloon release. And feel the excitement as the famous words, "Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!" ignite the atmosphere.
The Race:
They say over 300,000 people attend the race. There are many places around the track and in the in-field to watch from. But in my opinion, if you can, get a seat where you can watch the action before/after race and all the pit action during the race. Paddock Penthouse seats are our family favorites because you are high enough to see across the track to parts of the turn 2 and the backstretch in addition to turn 1 and 4. From here you also see the flag stand and know immediately if there is a change in the race or a penalty. Watching the drivers come in/out of the pits and the timing is a really entertaining part of a 200 lap race and getting to view restarts and of course see the finish line in front of you is amazing.
Post-race Traditions:
Celebrate with the Indy 500 winner in Victory Lane. Witness the placement of the BorgWarner Wreath and the presentation of the BorgWarner Trophy. Experience the winner's greeting, the tradition of drinking milk, and the final lap in a 500 Festival car. And witness the symbolic act of the winner and their team kneeling to kiss the Yard of Bricks. These cherished traditions add to the thrill and make the Indy 500 an unforgettable experience.
